Tour Shenanigans
Busy n Sweet <3
Hello dear friends!
It’s Thursday again and I write to you with another update. This week I went on tour with Will Jevne and Colin Schmidt of Sweater Weather Stringband. We played a couple of house shows in Portland, Corvallis, and a brewery in White Salmon, WA, with jams every night after. Only three days of moving about and I feel exhausted, but energized from the great joy that was shared.
Saturday I met Will at a Park n Ride in Tumwater, WA, and he drove me down to Portland where we played a sweet indoor house show at my new friend Julie’s house. It was charming and there was a big ole’ tunesy-singy-world music jam afterward that lit up my lights. Julie plays a bunch of instruments and speaks a bunch of languages, and we had a how-many-songs-do-we-know-in-other-languages sing-off. It made me miss Ethnos, the international folk music ensembles I attended in North Carolina and India.
The next day we hung out with Camellia and Josh, did some acro, then drove to Corvallis, OR, where a sweet house show venue hosted us on a newly built outdoor stage. The host Sadie was a baddass and we also jammed late into the night, starting with fiddle tunes and landing deep in the Rise Up Singing Songbooks (I was grateful that I recently repurchased Rise Up and Rise Again).
After breakfast in Corvallis we drove to White Salmon, where we played at a brewery. It was the first time we’d been amplified on this tour, and we had a hard time hearing ourselves. Sometimes gigs feel so good and sometimes, they can just feel off. Great learning either way!
After White Salmon we drove to Olympia where we stopped and saw my friend Gabe. Then I headed up to Port Townsend, where I’ve been staying the rest of this week. We played a show on Thursday with our friend Marina, and I’ve been resting and getting some work done.
This weekend I’m off to Bellingham and Seattle to do a couple more shows before I head to my godparents’ for Christmas. Life has been busy. I may have put too much on my plate. I’m learning what the hustle feels like, and sometimes it’s really fun and sometimes it’s exhausting. I feel like I haven’t been as in touch with my creative side lately. But Will and I are going to have some songwriting time today, so perhaps I’ll have a new song to share with you next week.
Till next time!
